Class Policy

Available Classes and Placement

The LDP teaching team specializes in a wide scope of dance styles including early dance education, ballet, pointe, conditioning, technique, contemporary, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics, and improvisation  Our goal is to place each student in classes where they will feel most comfortable facing challenges which will ultimately help them learn and improve.  If a student finds himself/herself in a class that is either too advanced or too elementary, she/he will be moved to the appropriate level at the teacher’s discretion.

Appropriate Attire

*Upon entering the studio ALL LDP students must have hair pulled back and secured with hair tie and bobbie pins, out of face.

  • Ballet:  Students are required to wear a solid color leotard, ballet pink tights, pink ballet/pointe shoes, and hair pulled back neatly in a bun.  Ballet is the most structured dance class and is the basis for all other forms of dance.  The neatness in the ballet dress code sets a precedent for neatness in form and attitude.
  • Intro Classes: Students must wear a leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, ballet skirts are acceptable (but not required).
  • Combination Classes: Students must wear a solid color leotard, pink transition tights, pink ballet shoes, black buckle tap shoes, jazz shoes are optional.  Dance pants, dance shorts and/or ballet skirts are acceptable.
  • Acrobatics: Students must be in bare feet to prevent slipping while tumbling, leotards are recommended, dance shorts and dance pants are acceptable.
  • Tap, Jazz, Contemporary Lyrical: Dress code for these classes is at the discretion of the instructor.
  • Boys Hip Hop: Comfortable clothing and footwear.

Attendance and Participation

It is extremely important that students be on time and attend classes regularly.  We ask that you please contact us if you know you are going to be late or are unable to attend a class.  If a child misses more than 3 consecutive classes due to illness, a doctor’s note will be required.  Please be aware that in order to improve and advance in your dance skills you must be willing to fully participate in each and every class.

Make Up Classes: If your student/students are unable to attend their regularly scheduled class due to illness, schedule conflict, etc. you may attend a comparable class (be sure to ask your teacher for suggestions) during the week to make up for the class/classes missed.  It is mandatory for the competition team to make up every class.

Parent Responsibility

Please do not leave your child at the studio any longer than 15 minutes after their scheduled class/classes have finished. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING ANY CLASS THAT ENDS AFTER 7:00 PM.

All students who choose to participate MUST understand that you are part of a team and as a part of a team you will be responsible for making sure you attend every class on a regular and timely basis.

  • All competition members will receive a competition team agreement which both student and parents will need to read and sign prior to the beginning of the dance year.

Adjudicated Competitions

LDP typically participates in 5 regional competitions and/or conventions from January through June of the dance year, and attends one national dance competition at the end of the Season.  Please know that each team member is expected to participate in EVERY competition.  In order to help members plan accordingly, LDP will provide you with a detailed Competition Calendar and Competition Fee Schedule at our annual Competition meeting held in August.

Competition Fees

Most competitions require payment 30-45 days in advance.  For your convenience, LDP will provide you with a fee schedule due date.  Fees will depend upon the amount and type of dances you will be participating in at each competition.  Please understand ALL competition fees are non-refundable once the competition has received your registration and payment.  Therefore, LDP will NOT be able to reimburse you under any circumstance.  Again, all competition students must be up to date on monthly tuition in order to compete in each competition.

Competition Rehearsals

Each student will receive a list of competition dances they are invited to participate in for the 2015-2016 competition year.  All competition students will be required to participate in a minimum of 3 dances, and must agree to:

  • Give 100% during rehearsals
  • Respect other students in dance and work as a team
  • Be open to any/all choreography and accept positions they are given without complaint

Pease note:  LDP teachers and choreographers reserve the right to add, change or remove students from dances as they see fit.

Competition Rehearsal Fees

Each competition member will be required to participate in AT LEAST three (3) group dances.  Additional rehearsal fees will be required per dance in order to cover the teacher’s choreography and hourly rate.  Parents will receive a monthly rehearsal fee total once ALL students have decided on which dances they would like to participate in this year.   Rehearsal fees will be based upon length of rehearsal, number of teachers and their hourly rate as well as the amount of students participating.   Fees will vary between $15 – $40/dance/month and will be assessed to your monthly invoice.

*Students are ONLY required to be in three competition dances, one being the production.  Dances will be decided by teachers and owner.

Costume Fees

As a competition team member you will be responsible for costume fees for each dance you choose to participate in. Please be aware that costumes will vary in price and that you are responsible for payment of each costume once they have been purchased or ordered.  Students will not be able to receive costumes until their costume fee has been paid. Costumes which are borrowed must be returned to Level Dance Project at the end of the Competition season.
